Southampton could be without the services of Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini for Saturday’s Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion.
Head coach Mauricio Pellegrino revealed on Thursday that Gabbiadini had picked up a hip problem in the 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night.
The 26-year-old, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, did not train on Thursday as a result of the problem, and could now miss out on a spot in the squad for the trip to the Hawthorns.
Gabbiadini was excellent for the Saints in the second half of last season following his arrival from Napoli, but he has struggled this term – managing just three Premier League goals in 22 appearances.
The forward has only actually started 10 league fixtures this term, however, and has not played the full 90 minutes of a match since the end of October.
The Southampton fans have been reacting to the news that Gabbiadini could miss out, and have claimed that the Italian’s time on the bench must have played a part in the issue.
