After a rollercoaster of a 12 months for his international and club career, USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner still believes he's on track to find success at both levels – and that outside noise is no issue. The U.S. international lost his starting spot at Nottingham Forest in January 2024, and was ousted from the club this past summer.
He found a loan away, joining Crystal Palace on a 12-month deal through the remainder of 2025, but things haven't gone to plan there either. He's moved between the second- and third-string goalkeeper at the club, but internationally, still remains first choice with the U.S.
He started both matches under Mauricio Pochettino in October against Panama and Mexico, and heading into the November camp, remains No. 1 despite his lack of playing time at the club level. Now, heading into the first competitive matches for the USMNT under the Pochettino, Turner believes said that he's still at a high level.

"So I think I'm self aware to a fault. Sometimes I wish I could be one of those goalkeepers that could look at a play and think I couldn't do anything about that. I've never conceded a goal in my entire career that I thought, 'You know what? I couldn't have done anything about that goal, you know?' So I'm always trying to learn and improve, and that's the mindset that I bring to every single training session. And I'm sure my teammates can can attest to that."
