The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland has delivered a transfer update from behind-the-scenes at Everton.
What’s the story?
Writing initially on Twitter, he said:
Then, in the subsequent follow-up article, Boyland added: “Short of depth and quality in the engine room, Everton were exploring the market for new additions even before Doucoure went down in last Saturday’s loss to Aston Villa.
“All of this means Moshiri and company are now likely to intensify their search for midfield reinforcements, temporary or otherwise, before Monday night’s deadline.”
Exciting finish to the transfer window
While naturally all attention and focus is on Everton’s search for a new permanent manager following Rafa Benitez’s sacking earlier this month, it shouldn’t distract from the fact the Toffees desperately need some signings in this final week of the January transfer window.
As Boyland hinted at, even before the injuries to Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph, the Merseyside club needed some fresh reinforcements in the middle of the park, so it is encouraging to see that the Toffees recognise that is something that needs to be done fairly quickly.
Farhad Moshiri already has his hands full with coming to a conclusion on who the club’s next boss will be, but he cannot afford to take his eye off the ball in terms of new signings.
Boyland’s update that the club “are now likely to intensify” their search for midfield signings is sure to have Everton fans relieved and excited about what is to come.
Meanwhile, Moshiri could make a surprise signing by landing this man…
