According to Catalan Radio (via Team Talk), Mesut Ozil is set to snub Manchester United in favour of a move to Barcelona this January.
What’s the Story?
Mesut Ozil could be on his way to Barcelona, according to reports in Spain. Catalan Radio have reported that a deal has been struck between Arsenal and Barca and the German international will leave the Emirates for around £17.8million.
This will come as a blow to Jose Mourinho, who was reportedly looking to add Mesut Ozil to his squad during the winter transfer window.
How good has Ozil been this season?
Once again, Mesut Ozil has had a somewhat inconsistant season in North London. The 29-year-old shows regular flashes of exceptional skill but is also capable of a very quiet game.
The German international has featured in 10 games for the Gunners this campaign, scoring just once and providing three assists for his teammates.
Unfortunately, for both club and player, much of the discussion around Ozil is regarding his contract, of which he has yet to renew. It now seems that the World Cup winner will be on his way out of Arsenal in two months time.
Would Manchester United be missing out on Ozil?
Jose Mourinho, who has worked with Mesut Ozil before, may feel that he can reignite Ozil’s talents and consistency at Old Trafford.
While the former Real Madrid man, who is valued at £45million by Transfermarkt, is certainly nowhere near his best form, a move to a club battling for a number of trophies this season may bring back his confidence somewhat.
