Nicolas Otamendi may have claimed a place in the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Season but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be a key part of Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup when 2018/19 comes around.
The Argentine has been replaced by 23-year-old Aymeric Laporte in recent weeks, with these final few games of the season seemingly representing something of an audition for the January signing.
And having helped City concede just one goal during their last two games, it appears City fans are keen on Laporte, who measures in at 6 foot 3, holding down the role on a permanent basis going forward.
We recently asked City fans whether they’d prefer Laporte, Otamendi or John Stones to partner Vincent Kompany next season and it was the Frenchman who won our poll with an impressive 59% of the vote.
