Despite arriving with a strong reputation and a significant transfer fee, Antony has struggled to find consistency at Old Trafford. This season, the winger has managed just one goal – a penalty against League One side Barnsley in the Carabao Cup – and his overall impact has been minimal. His most recent performance, in a rare start against Tottenham Hotspur, highlighted his ongoing difficulties as he once again failed to influence the game.

Antony’s struggles have persisted despite various tactical adjustments by new United head coach Amorim, who has deployed him in different roles, including as a wing-back and as one of the playmakers in a 3-4-3 system. While analysing his barren run of form, the Portuguese tactician noted that Antony seems hesitant in one-on-one situations, an area where he previously excelled.
WHAT AMORIM SAID
"He needs more confidence," Amorim told reporters. "If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-v-one, so he will improve. But he's working really hard, he's trying, he's playing more inside than outside, especially in this game (against Tottenham). You have to do that to work really hard and that will help him to be a better player."
DID YOU KNOW?
Speculation is mounting that United may part ways with Antony next year if his performances do not improve. The club’s significant investment in the player has yet to pay off, and patience among fans and management is wearing thin.
